What types of cryopreservation are available?
We offer cryopreservation of sperm for $1,600 and embryos for $2,200. We use the new Ostermeirer et al "Jax protocol" for sperm cryopreservation. This procedure works for sperm from common inbred strains.

We also provide cryopreservation of ovaries for $2,200.

We use a step-down freezer for cryopreservation of sperm and embryos. Step-down freezing yields higher recovery rates than rapid, vitrification protocols.

How reliable are sperm and embryo cryopreservation?
We cryopreserve samples in batch sizes and quality such that they can be considered a reliable sole source of the strain. Embryo cryopreservation has a long track record of success, whereas sperm cryopreservation in the mouse relies on technical improvements published in 2008.

Why cryopreserve?
Cryopreservation can be used to provide backup for valuable strains.

Reanimation of frozen stocks:
The Reanimation of Frozen Embryos (Frozen Embryo Transfer or FET) is $900, and Reanimation of Frozen Sperm (IVF) is $1,600.
