CWRU New Investigator Orientation

Welcome to CWRU! If you have a research program involving animals please act early to expedite your transition.

  1. To arrange for space for your animals, to accommodate your housing and care needs, and to determine whether your animals will need to be rederived into our facilities, please contact the Director of the Animal Resource Center, Dr John Durfee (216-368-0260; jwd7@case.edu) well in advance of your planned move. Other information about our state-of-the-art animal facilities is at http://casemed.case.edu/ora/arc/

  2. A CWRU IACUC protocol will be required for your animals. Application forms, policies and procedures are available at http://casemed.case.edu/ora/iacuc/ (216-368-3815; iacuc@case.edu). The IACUC meets on the third Tuesday of every month, and protocols must be submitted prior to the last Friday of the preceeding month to allow time for review, revision, discussion and approval of protocols. Apply early!

  3. If rederivation is required for importation of your colony, contact the Manager of the Case Transgenic and Targeting Facility, Dr Rachel Mann (216-368-2528; rjm12@case.edu). Online ordering and information on other services, costs and success rates are available at http://ko.cwru.edu. Please submit a rederivation request for each individual line. We will contact you with detailed, scheduling instructions. We require a minimum of 3 males and the purchase of age-matched, wildtype donor females. Rederivation is usually initiated within 3 weeks of request. Specific-pathogen-free (MNV-negative, Helicobacter-negative and other tested pathogen-negative) pups are born ~6 weeks from request.

  4. Information about other core facilities is available at http://casemed.case.edu/ora/cf/
